Mount Rushmore

Initially conceived by Doane Robinson in 1923 to promote tourism in South Dakota, Mount Rushmore began construction between October 4, 1927, through October 31, 1941. The concept was designed by Italian artist and sculptor, Gutzon Borglum. He along with 400 workers sculpted the 60ft carving of the presidents. While enjoying this marvel in the mountains, there's a large number of species of birds that inhabit the area. Bring your binoculars and observe turkey vultures, golden eagles, bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, swallows and white-throated swifts. With so much to do and so much to see, Mount Rushmore is the perfect place to experience a national treasure, and enjoy the beautiful landscape of South Dakota.
